Ottawa Hospital, the largest hospital in the capital of Ontario, has set up an email address for companies and individuals who have protective equipment to donate for medical staff.
“We’ve had a number of generous offers to donate personal protective equipment from our community and to every that has offered, thank you very much,” said Dr. Andrew Willmore, FRCPC Medical Director at the Ottawa Hospital. “We’re incredibly grateful to have such strong support in our region.”
While the logistics team at the hospital is currently taking inventory of donations received thus far, Dr. Willmore says it’s too soon to say whether some teams are in shorter supply than others.
As the number of positive cases increase, masks are starting to be rationed at the hospital. Hospital spokesperson Michaela Schreiter stated that the hospital is adhering to the rules set by the province, as well as advice from the hospital’s own infection control and prevention team.
Local Almonte-based distillery, The Daily Distillery, has provided the Ottawa Hospital with 1,000 liters of sanitizer. The distillery shifted production – from vodka to sanitizer – in an effort to help local teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
