The Ontario government has launched a toll-free information line to assist businesses in the province regarding the emergency shutdown of at-risk workplaces during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Known as the Stop The Spread Business Information Line, it is reachable at 1-888-444-3659 and is open for assistance from 8:30 AM to 5 PM every day. All businesses who require clarity on the emergency ruling regarding closure of workplaces, or those who have questions about how the emergency measures will affect their businesses, can call the toll-free number and have their fears allayed.
The shutdown came into effect after Ontario premier Doug Ford followed recommendations made by Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams, which were affirmed by Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott. The measure was announced this past Monday, and businesses were given 72 hours to adhere and adapt to the new protocol. The province had released a list of essential services that would not be affected by the closure order, which have been advised to instate procedures for physical distancing and regular hand washing as a measure to increase the safety of employees and customers. Non-essential businesses were advised to ask employees to work from home, a protocol that is being adopted by many businesses across the globe during this difficult time.
